The 2026 Dyslipidemia Guideline – historical perspective and real-world application

The Grand Rounds, “The 2026 Dyslipidemia Guideline – historical perspective and real-world application,” will review the evolution of contemporary lipid management and cardiovascular risk reduction strategies leading up to the 2026 ACC/AHA/Multisociety guideline.

Daniel E. Soffer, MD, is Associate Professor of Medicine at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania and serves as Director of Medical Education in Preventive Cardiology. He is Chief Science Officer of the National Lipid Association and a key contributor to national lipid guideline development, including participation in the 2026 ACC/AHA/Multisociety Dyslipidemia Guideline Writing Committee. His clinical and academic work focuses on preventive cardiology, inherited lipid disorders, and advanced lipid-lowering therapies, with extensive experience in guideline development, clinical trials, and medical education within cardiovascular disease prevention.

Learning Objectives:

1. Identify who is best suited for treatment with lipid-lowering therapy (LLT) for ASCVD risk reduction.
2. Apply appropriate lipid and lipoprotein goals to optimize ASCVD risk.
3. Utilize non-statin therapies for LDL-lowering based on patient-specific risk profiles and current clinical guidelines.
